"Io son l'umile ancella" from Adriana Lecouverur is from Fonotipia disc No. 92161, made available by Jim Shulman, an eminent record collector from the Philadelphia area.
In addition to Burzio's Fonotipia discs, she also recorded for Columbia and Pathe.
BURZIO's dates are June 20, 1872 to May 18, 1922. She studied in Milan and made her stage debut in 1903. In 1906 she sang Caterina in La Risurrezione as her debut role at La Scala, and in 1907 she had a sensational success there in the title role of Loreley. Thereafter she was known as one of the most famous female interpreters of VERISMO Italian opera. After 1909, she was frequently a guest at the Teatro Colon. In 1911 she sang at La Scala in Saffro and Armide, and in 1912 in Norma. Her last few appearances were at the Teatro Lirico in 1919 in Marion Delorme; at that time she was already suffering from advanced heart disease. She had a luxuriantly dramatic soprano voice, filled with the ability to PROJECT PASSION.
