Signor deh concedete

This aria is from the comic opera "Il matrimonio segreto" (The secret marriage) with music by Domenico Cimarosa (1749 t0 1801) and libretto by Giovanni Bertati (1735 to 1815). It was first performed on 7 February 1792 at the Imperial Hofburg Theatre in Vienna in the presence of Emperor Leopold II and it was the occasion of the longest encore in operatic history; Leopold II was so delighted that he ordered supper served to the company and the entire opera repeated immediately after. This is the best known of more than 80 operas written by Cimarosa.
This recording is from a recording of the full opera made in 1956 with Orchestra Del Teatro Alla Scala Milano conducted by Nino Sanzogno.
Luigi Alva was born in 1927 and is still alive at 95 years of age.
Franco Calabrese was born in 1923 and died in 1992.
