"Latvian mezzo-soprano Elina Garanca made her Royal Opera debut in 2007 as Dorabella (CosÃ¬ fan tutte) and has since returned to sing Romeo (I Capuleti e i Montecchi), Carmen and Santuzza (Cavalleria rusticana). In the 2019/20 Season she sings Pricess Eboli (Don Carlo).
Garanca grew up in Riga. She studied at the Latvian Academy of Music and in Vienna. She won the 1999 Mirjam Helin International Singing Competition and was a finalist in the 2001 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. She made her Salzburg Festival debut in 2003 as Annio (La clemenza di Tito) and her Metropolitan Opera, New York, debut in 2008 as Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia). She appears regularly for such companies as the Metropolitan Opera, Paris OpÃ©ra, Vienna State Opera, La Scala, Milan, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Bavarian State Opera, ZÃ¼rich Opera and Salzburg Festival, in repertory including Sara (Roberto Devereux), LÃ©onor (La Favorite), Romeo, Carmen, Marguerite (La Damnation de Faust), Dalila (Samson et Dalila), Didon (Les Troyens), Charlotte (Werther), Eboli, Santuzza and Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier).
Garanca appears in concert with many of the worldâ€™s most prestigious orchestras, and has toured Europe and Mexico in recital. Her extensive discography includes most recently the album Sol y Vida; past albums include Aria Cantilena, Bel Canto, Habanera, Romantique and Revive, all for Deutsche Grammophon, for whom she is an exclusive recording artist. Her awards include four ECHO Klassik Awards. In 2013 she wrote the book Wirklich Wichtig sind die Schuhe. She is a KammersÃ¤ngerin of Vienna State Opera."; roh
