Possibly one of the most beautiful things ever recorded. Sigrid Onegin (1889-1943), German contralto, made her recital debut in 1911 in Wiesbaden. The following year saw her opera debut, as Carmen, in Stuttgart. Her rise was consistent, and she became very well known and eventually sang in all the major houses . Her Met debut was as Amneris in 1922. Her voice was quite beautiful, and her singing very smooth and elegant. This recording of "Che farò," made at the height of her career, is by any reckoning a classic, surely one of the best ever made.
