MARTINELLI LA JUIVE ALTERNATE TAKE: Dieu, que ma voix tremblante from Halévy’s LA JUIVE was first recorded by GIOVANNI MARTINELLI [1885 – 1969] twice on 3 XII 1924 for Victor. Neither take was published, probably because electrical recording was in the foreground and Sr Martinelli’s first electrical recording from LA JUIVE by the new process was made six months later. The 1924 acoustic take 2 of the aria appeared on two of Edward J. Smith’s Lp issues, 221 and 470. It also was used in the Romophone set of the Martinelli acoustic discs, 82012-2. Take 1 is presented in this post. Martinelli was filmed in two excerpts from LA JUIVE by Warner Bros. for its early VITAPHONE motion picture releases.
