Marjorie Lawrence - "Il va venir" LA JUIVE (Halévy) 1945

Singer(s): Marjorie Lawrence Joan Sutherland Nellie Melba

After Nellie Melba and Joan Sutherland, Marjorie Lawrence was Australia's greatest operatic soprano. Her singing career was sensational in every way - as is evident in the 2021 documentary film "Marjorie Lawrence - The World at her Feet". Unlike many of her contemporaries, she promoted works of lesser-known composers (from all musical periods) in her regular recital programmes. Lawrence performed the role of Rachel in Fromental Halévy's grand opera in five acts LA JUIVE early in her career. Here, on a "Bell Telephone Hour" broadcast from March 12th 1945, she performs the aria "Il va venir" with orchestra conducted by Donald Voorhees. A 4CD set honouring this sensational soprano is available on Désirée Records in their splendid Great Australian Voices series (GAV 010)

Libretto/Lyrics/Text/Testo:
