Yvonne Kenny is Australia’s greatest soprano since Joan Sutherland. While Mozart was probably what she is best known for she is also a great Handelian.
Alcina was one of her signature roles having sung it at Covent Garden and for Opera Australia,
In this recording, she gives us more of a "main stage" operatic sound than a traditional "early music" sound. However, she is certainly capable of both to which her many recordings attest.
Kenny is now a professor at the Guildhall School

ALCINA
Mi restano le lagrime;
direi dell'alma i voti,
ma i dei, resi ho implacabili,
e non m'ascolta il ciel.
Potessi in onda limpida
sottrarmi ai sole, ai dì:
potessi in sasso volgermi,
che finirei così
la pena mia crudel.
ALCINA
My tears remain;
I would say of the alma the votes,
but the gods, rendered I implacable,
and I do not hear the heavens.
I could be on the clear wave
get away from the sun, the day:
you could stone me,
that I would end up like this
my cruel punishment.
