Karl Richter's post-romantic take on Baroque opera - that is, without the use of countertenors and travesto sopranos, replacing with basses and tenors.
Giulio Cesare has beautiful arias and superb orchestration. The Münchener Bach-Orchester's continuo playing is masterful, but I won't be uploading the recitatives.
Seeing the severed head of her husband, Cornelia (Julia Hamari) enters in a state of shock, and laments not being able do kill herself.
"Priva son d'ogni conforto,
E pur speme di morire
Per me misera non v'è.
Il mio cor, da pene assorto,
È già stanco di soffrire
E morir si niega a me."
Cornelia
Priva son d'ogni conforto, e pur speme di morire
per me misera non v'è.
Il mio cor, da pene assorto, è già stanco di soffrire,
e morir si niega a me.
(parte)
Cornelia
Priva is of every comfort, and yet he desires to die
there is no miserable for me.
My heart, from an absorbed penis, is already tired of suffering,
and die dies at me.
