“Cavalleria Rusticana†(Rustic Chivalry) is a tragic tale that unfolds on Easter Sunday in a Sicilian village, circa 1900. Santuzza’s former lover, a soldier named Turridu, is in love with Lola, the wife of the prosperous carter, Alfio. Santuzza seeks revenge by telling Alfio of Lola’s unfaithfulness — a decision that leads to fateful consequences. The opera was composed by Pietro Mascagni, with libretto by Guido Menasci and Giovanni Targioni-Tozzetti.
