“Cavalleria Rusticana” (Rustic Chivalry) is a tragic tale that unfolds on Easter Sunday in a Sicilian village, circa 1900. Santuzza’s former lover, a soldier named Turridu, is in love with Lola, the wife of the prosperous carter, Alfio. Santuzza seeks revenge by telling Alfio of Lola’s unfaithfulness — a decision that leads to fateful consequences. The opera was composed by Pietro Mascagni, with libretto by Guido Menasci and Giovanni Targioni-Tozzetti.

The Lycoming College Community Orchestra is comprised of students, faculty, and professional musicians from the Williamsport area. The ensemble was founded in 2013 by Dr. William Ciabattari, associate professor of music and department chair at Lycoming College. The orchestra performs annually at Lycoming College, sharing orchestral favorites with the campus community. Membership is open to all students and faculty by audition.

The Lycoming College Chamber Choir is the smallest ensemble of the larger Lycoming College Choir. Students are selected by competitive audition. The group performs a diverse repertoire ranging from vocal jazz to major works. Libretto/Lyrics/Text/Testo:

ALFIO
Comare Santa,
Allor grato vi sono.

SANTUZZA
Infame io son
Che vi parlai cosi!

ALFIO
Infami loro:
Ad essi non perdono;
Vendetta avrò
Pria che tramonti il di.
Io sangue voglio,
All'ira m'abbandono,
In odio tutto
L'amor mio finì...

Escono.

English Libretto or Translation:

ALFIO
Santuzza,
Then I am grateful to you.

SANTUZZA
I am vile
To have told you this.

ALFIO
It is they who are vile:
I will not forgive them;
I will have vengeance
Before the sun goes down.
I will have blood,
My rage shall know no bounds,
And all my love
Shall end in hate.
