Singer: José CarrerasSaverio Mercadante (1795-1870) was well known in his day, but was eclipsed during the early Romantic movement by Donizetti and Rossini. His music is seldom performed today, which is a loss, because there is some very beautiful music in his operas. Il Giuramento was premiered in 1837. Here, the brilliant Spanish tenor José Carreras sings the beautiful aria "La dea di tutti i cor—Bella adorata incognita."
