WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART "DIE ZAUBERFLOTE" EDDA MOSER with WOLFGANG SAWALLISCH conducting "o zittre nicht mein leiber Sohn" If you only had ONE choice of coloratura soprano to play Queen of The Night on a dessert Island, mine would have to be Edda Moser. Her dramatic coloratura soprano was of the most defined quality with an exquisitely powerful, authoritative range. She was particularly effective in operatic roles of of Mozart, Wagner, and Puccini, as well as in modern music, singing works by Luigi Nono, Wolfgang Fortner, and Bernd Alois Zimmerman. Her voice has been described as powerfull yet highly defined; being able to negotiate both coloratura and lyrico-dramatic styles. In particular, her Mozartian interpretations were quite extraordinary. Her 1973 recital LP "Virtuoso Arias by W. A. Mozart" received the Grand Prix du Disque award.

English Libretto or Translation:
QUEEN OF THE NIGHT My heart is seething with hellish vengeance, death and despair are blazing around me! Unless Sarastro feels the pangs of death at your hands you are no longer my daughter. Forever disowned, forever abandoned, forever destroyed may all ties of nature be, unless Sarastro dies at your hands! Hear! Gods of vengeance! Hear a mother's vow!
