Qual rauco muggito!
De' Numi il furore
Ha il mare infierito.
Nettuno, mercé!
Incalza la tempesta, il mare si gonfia, il cielo tuona, e lampeggia, e i frequenti fulmini incendiano le navi. Un mostro formidabile s'appresenta fuori dell'onde.

What hoarse roaring!
The gods' fury
has whipped up the sea.
Neptune, have mercy!
The storm increases, the sea rises: the storm approaches, the sea swells. Thunder and lightning. The ships are struck by lightning. A terrible monster appears from out of the sea.

What hate, what anger
Neptune shows us!
What is our sin,
that heaven rages?
