American Bass-Baritone Norman Treigle (1927-1975) began singing with the New Orleans Opera Assosication in 1947, at the same time he was studying music. His debut was 1953 (Roméo et Juillete) at the New York City Opera. He soon added Bohème, Susannah, Faust and Hoffmann to his repertoire and was developing an international reputation as not only an extraordinary singer, but a remarkable actor, at the time of his tragic and premature death at age 48 Here he hear him as the evil Dr. Miracle, in Offenbach's Tales of Hoffmann, as he tricks Antonia into singing, knowing that she is ill and the effort will be fatal.
