THE SONGBIRD: Elegant lyric soprano Barbara Hendricks was born in Arkansas in 1948. She studied at Juilliard (and took a master class with Maria Callas, no less!), then made her debut at Glyndebourne in 1974 as the title role in Cavalli's "La Calisto." Her career skyrocketed and she has sung in opera houses, concert halls, and recording studios around the world ever since. Here she is singing the famous aria from Puccini's "La Rondine" in May 1980, and extra high note at the end.
