Roberto Alagna was singing last year at the Metropolitan Opera the role of Cavaradossi from Tosca (Puccini) in spite of Marcelo Alvarez how was ill for the first performance. It has to be noted that it was also the first time the soprano Sandra Radvanovsky sang the title role of Tosca. This 10 01 2011 was a big success!
And now, ONE YEAR LATER DAY FOR DAY, the tenor is singing officially the performances of Tosca at the Met on 10 01 2012...
The occasion to compare the vocal evolution and the intepretation in the same set!
Here is the beautiful aria from Act 3: "E lucevan le stelle" last year....A great singing only with 4 hours to prepare for the night (Roberto was singing Don José from Carmen these days at the Met)
Watch videos with other singers performing E lucevan le stelle:
English Libretto or Translation:
CAVARADOSSI begins to write, but after a few lines a flood of memories invades him. And the stars shone and the earth was perfumed. The gate to the garden creaked And a footstep rustled the sand to the path … Fragrant, she entered And fell into my arms … Oh soft kisses, oh sweet abandon, As I trembling Unloosed her veils and disclosed her beauty. Oh vanished forever is that dream of love, Fled is that hour, And desperately I die. And never before have I loved so much!
