Joan Rodgers, one of the leading English sopranos of her generation, is especially noted for her interpretations of Russian vocal music. On this particular occasion, she gave a splendid performance of a famous solo from Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin" in which Tatiana, in a heartfelt letter, declares her love for the hero of the opera's title. The excerpt heard here comes from the Last Night of the 1988 Proms in London's Royal Albert Hall, with the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Andrew Davis.
