Alta cagion v'aduna

From a concert performance of Giuseppe Verdi's opera AIDA in Melbourne on November 23rd 1982, we hear the second scene of Act One commencing from Il Re's "Alta cagion v’aduna, O fidi Egizi, al vostro Re d’intorno" through Aida's first aria "Ritorna vincitor! E dal mio labbro uscì l’empia parola!" The cast included Rita Hunter and Sergei Baigildin as Aida and Radamès. (Sergei Baigildin replaced the scheduled Donald Smith - who was well-known for his notorious cancellations.) John Wegner and Noel Mangin sang Ramfis and Il Re with Ian Cousins as the Messaggero. The Victoria State Opera Chorus, Melbourne Chorale and Elizabethan Melbourne Orchestra are conducted by Richard Divall.
