The excellent Australian soprano, Stella Axarlis, was born in Egypt of Greek parents and migrated to Australia in 1950. She won the Metropolitan Opera Auditions in 1967 and headed for Europe stepping straight into some of the most demanding dramatic soprano roles in opera in many of Europe’s Houses. On her frequent returns to Australia, she performed as a guest Principal with Opera Australia. From a performance in Düsseldorf, February 3rd 1975, we hear her as Elisabetta in the quartet from Act Three of Verdi's DON CARLO. Her colleagues in this ensemble are Faith Puleston as Eboli, Toshimitsu Kimura as Posa and Peter Meven as Filippo. The orchestra is conducted by Robert Schaub.
