La traviata:
Alfredo's Act 2 recitative and aria.
Recorded 7 March 1912, under Victor/HMV label.
Cantor/operatic tenor Hermann Jadlowker had a dark spinto voice exceptionally skilled in fioratura. A contemporary of Enrico Caruso, he was overshadowed by the latter, like many other fine tenors of that generation.
He is more known for his contribution to German and earlier Italian repertoire, but here is an interesting recording of him singing Verdi, one of the few he made in his career. Recordings of him singing excerpts from Don Carlos and Trovatore also exist.
De' miei bollenti spiriti
Il giovanile ardore
Ella temprň col placido
Sorriso dell'amore!
Dal dě che disse: vivere
Io voglio a te fedel,
Dell'universo immemore
Io vivo quasi in ciel.
My passionate spirit
And the fire of youth
She tempers with the
Gentle smile of love.
Since the day when she told me
"I want to live, faithful to you alone!"
I have forgotten the world
And lived like one in heaven …
