LADY MACBETHMy royal husband, what has drawn you away
from the delights of the banquet?
MACBETH
Banquo is not here. That courageous man
who would complete the chosen circle
of the most worthy
in all our kingdom.
LADY MACBETH
He said he would be here but he has failed us.
MACBETH
I shall sit in his place.
Macbeth goes to sit down, but Banquo’s ghost, which only he can see, is in his place.
Which of you has done this?

MACBETH

Do not say that it was I! Do not
shake your bloody locks at me!

getting up
Macbeth is ill.
Let us go.
LADY MACBETH
Stay! His sickness is passing.

the devil himself.
