This opera is a total bummer! Â Good always loses to Bad. Â And the most popular aria of the opera is "La donna mobile;" is a tune so sexist that it wouldn't have a snowball's chance in hell of succeeding if aired fresh today. Â Ah, but Verdi was a master of melody and this song is one of his finest constructions! Â When the two quartets start, please take note of the amazing separation of voices that keeps the duet and quartet scenes understandable! Â And Pavarotti was in fine form for this movie version of the opera! Â So I beg you, enjoy just the notes at least; we all can learn about the craft of musical composition from this masterpiece!
