Australian tenor DONALD SMITH sings the Duke's 4th Act aria LA DONNA E MOBILE 'Women Are Fickle' from RIGOLETTO by Giuseppe Verdi.
DONALD SMITH recorded RIGOLETTO in 1962 with the Sadler's Wells Opera company in London conducted by James Lockhart. Donald performed the role of 'The Duke' for several seasons throughout Britian with soprano Elizabeth Harwood (Gilda) and Peter Glossop (Rigoletto). Donald was originally engaged by 'The Wells' to come to England to debut with them at the old Sadler's Wells Theatre in Roseberry Avenue in the role of 'Alfredo' in 'La Traviata'. But on arrival it was realised that this 'lirico spinto' tenor voice had the capability to perform much more dramatic roles in the Verdi repertoire such as 'Attila', 'Ernani' and 'The Force of Destiny' ('La Forze Del Destino').
