Miguel Fleta (28 December 1892 - 30 May 1938) was a Spanish operatic tenor. He was one of the most significant opera singers of the 20th century and was renowned for his messa di voce and his ability to produce eternal, spun out pianissimo effects before swelling the tone to its full size and back down again. He studied voice at the Madrid conservatory and debuted in Trieste, Italy in 1919. Successful engagements followed. He sang at La Scala from 1923 to 1926 and at the Metropolitan Opera from 1923 to 1925. He created the role of Calaf in Giacomo Puccini's posthumously-premiered final opera, Turandot, Arturo Toscanini conducting. He retired in 1935 after a 16-year career and died three years later at the age of 41.
